Popinabox October 2015 Review

Popinabox: October 2015 Review

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

I only ordered 1 Pop from Popinabox this month, mainly because my collection is becoming slightly out of hand and also partly because of the disaster I had with them last month.

This month Popinabox gave everyone an increased chance of getting a large Pop (6") - I think there was a 1 in 4 chance or something similar? Anyway, it would probably have been a good month to do a large order, but I honestly don't have the room right now.

My Pop arrived in a regular sized box, so I immediately knew that I wasn't one of the lucky ones:

Even so, I was a lot more impressed this month than I was last month. My Pop was in perfect condition and it was a great one for my collection :)

Lord Voldemort Funko Pop! Vinyl

He who must not be named! I'm loving the Harry Potter Funkos; I already have Dumbledore, Hagrid and 3 Harrys (see here for the arrival of the 3rd Harry). Voldemort is a great addition to the team.

Overall:

I was so much happier with Popinabox this month. I will probably stick to getting the one Pop from this point onward, but that is because I am becoming seriously limited on space. The service was flawless this month though - I can't fault it.

Popinabox September 2015 Review

Popinabox: September 2015 Review

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

So, for September I ordered my largest Popinabox yet - 4 Pops - and received them in two batches. The first Pop I received was by itself in a small box:

This Pop was really well packaged and arrived in great condition. It also was a Pop that fitted very well with one I received the month before.

Dana Scully Funko Pop! Vinyl

This was a good choice for me - I love the X Files and I like that I now have a Scully and an Alien to show off. I'm not too bothered about collecting the Cigarette Smoking Man, but it would be nice to have a Mulder to go with these guys.

A closer look:

Unfortunately, the next 3 Pops that they sent me arrived in terrible condition. It wasn't even damage that happened in transit - the Pops had been forced into the box in such a way that the boxes simply caved under the pressure. Whoever packed the boxes clearly gave no thought to the physics of cramming delicate items into an obviously too small space.

I contacted Popinabox and it took them more than a week to get back to me (not a great effort in my opinion). They did offer to replace the Pops, but I was pretty fed up by that point (and I am exceptionally lazy) and I couldn't be arsed to deal with all the posting chaos that was involved.

Lafayette Reynolds Funko Pop! Vinyl

Lafayette took the worst of the damage unfortunately - his box has just disintegrated at this point. I am a True Blood fan though, so the Pop itself was a nice surprise.

Bill Compton Funko Pop! Vinyl

Again, pleased with the Pop itself but a bit disappointed with the damage. Bill's box was the most intact though, so this one was salvageable.

Alcide Herveaux Funko Pop! Vinyl

I think there might have been a bit of a theme to my box this month, what do you guys think? If it wasn't for the horrible packaging job, I would have been super happy with this haul.

Overall:

This is the first time that Popinabox has let me down and it made me a bit wary. I'm definitely bringing my subscription back down to a cheaper one, if not pausing it completely for a while. They just seem to have become a little more careless since they expanded to being an international service and I expected a bit better from them.

Popinabox August 2015 Review (Part 2)

Popinabox: August 2015 Review (Part 2)

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

The final part of my August Popinabox subscription arrived on Friday! It sounds like they've made some pretty major programming changes to the website this month, which will hopefully resolve the issues that people have been having with receiving parts of their subscription so far apart.

Lemongrab Funko Pop! Vinyl

I was really happy to see this guy in my box this month! I was a little disappointed with the first part, because I received one that I had thumbed down too late (completely my fault). I am collecting the Adventure Time Pops though, so this really made up for it.

A closer look:

Overall:

I'm loving this subscription - I think it is one of my favourite. I really enjoy being able to say which Pops I do not want to receive and the fact that you can choose how much you want to spend.

Popinabox August 2015 Review (Part 1)

Popinabox August 2015 Review (Part 1)

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

It looks like Popinabox are getting the subscriptions out pretty early this month! Like with last month, my delivery was short by 1 Pop. I'm sure that the second part will follow later in the month.

This month I ordered 3 mystery Pops and I received 2 of them this morning.

'Gremlins' Funko Pop! Vinyl

Unfortunately this was one that I had second thoughts about and 'thumbed down' - but I did it too late! It's not the end of the world though, I had him on my wishlist for a while because I thought he was cute. As long as I eventually get a 'Gizmo' to go with him then I'll be happy.

A closer look:

He is adorably evil looking. He's growing on me by the second :)

'Alien' Funko Pop! Vinyl

This guy is from The X Files and he is awesome! I would love to have the Mulder and Scully to go with him. I'm very excited for the return of this show in January (I think that's when it comes back? Correct me if I'm wrong!) so I'm delighted to have this Pop in my collection.

A closer look:

(I apologise for the poor picture quality this month - I'm not sure what I was doing!)

Overall:

A pretty decent month from Popinabox. The Gremlins thing is unfortunate but entirely my own fault - they do warn you to do any 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' before the start of the month to avoid these situations! I love the Alien and I can't wait to get my third Pop.

Check back for the 2nd part soon :)

Popinabox July 2015 Review (Part 2)

Popinabox: July 2015 Review (Part 2)

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

It turns out that Popinabox had some real issues with their system this month, meaning a lot of people ended up getting only part of their subscription. They now seem to have resolved the problem and it looks like they're on top of things again. I received the second part of my subscription today:

Harley Quinn with Mallet (Underground Toys Exclusive)

I love this Pop! I'm a huge fan of Harley Quinn and was looking forward to maybe getting one of the many Pop versions that are available. The Pop is in great condition and has the 'Exclusive' sticker, which I'm very happy about. I just need more DC Pops to add to the collection now :)

The first Pop I received this month (metallic, bloody Dean Winchester) was also an Underground Toys Exclusive, meaning I've been sent two relatively high value Pops this month. I don't know if I just got lucky, but I'm very pleased!

Popinabox Funko Pop SDCC Exclusives

Popinabox: Funko Pop SDCC Exclusives

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

Popinabox are now allowing people to preorder San Diego Comic Con exclusive Funko Pops from this year's SDCC!

There are some amazing Pops on offer this year, covering a bunch of different great shows and films - Supernatural, Breaking Bad, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Who (just to name a few!)

I'm in love with Funko Pops of any variety, but the SDCC variants are always very special. I'm treating myself to the 'French Mistake Castiel' and the 'Eleventh Doctor SDCC Exclusive' this year. I can't wait 'til they start sending them out!

N.B. I know that this isn't strictly subscription box related, but hopefully it's of some use to the Funko Pop fans among you :)

Popinabox July 2015 Review (Part 1)

Popinabox: July 2015 Review (Part 1)

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

I came home from work today to find this box waiting for me. I was fairly sure it was from Popinabox, but unfortunately they don't put any identifying information in/on their boxes so it can be hard to confirm if you receive a lot of deliveries.

I was also surprised to see such a small box - my subscription is for 2 Pops, and this was definitely only the size of 1 Pop. I've seen on their Facebook and Twitter pages that a lot of other people have received fewer Pops than they subscribed for, and I have definitely been charged for 2, so hopefully I will receive my other Pop in a few days!

This Pop was amazing though! I am very, very happy. Popinabox really indulged my love of Supernatural by sending me this guy:

'Dean Winchester' from Supernatural (Underground Toys Exclusive)

He is both metallic AND blood splattered - I couldn't have asked for more! I only have one other limited edition Pop in my collection (Grey Wind from GOT), so it's great to be sent a ltd. edition from a fandom that I really love.

I do already own the 'standard' Dean Pop, but in this instance I am more than happy to have the two of them in my collection - especially as I will probably keep the ltd. edition in his box. Here is a pic of the two of them together for comparison:

So, I don't know what my 2nd Pop is yet - or what is going on with that - but so far I am thrilled with this month's efforts. Make sure to check back for Part 2 if/when the next Pop arrives!

Popinabox Customer Service

Popinabox Customer Service: the Jon Snow Saga

Hey guys, this is neither a review or a new box but I wanted to take a moment to make a positive comment about the customer service from Popinabox.

I decided to try out their order system now that I've had a couple of subscription boxes from them, so I ordered myself a 'Winged Castiel' Pop and a 'Jon Snow Castle Black Muddy Pop'. My Jon Snow came this morning:

Rather embarrassingly, I hadn't realised that the 'Muddy' aspect of the Pop was rather subtle and I assumed they had sent the wrong Pop. I messaged them and lots of emails were exchanged, including a lot of errors/technology hurdles. Basically, we figured out that I was being a noob and the Jon Snow was perfect and exactly as I had ordered. I was particularly red faced for kicking up a fuss on a Sunday of all days!

The experience has taught me three things though, 1) Popinabox have great customer service, 2) their order system is just as good as the subscription service, 3) they will not openly laugh in your face if you're a bit of an idiot.

Jon (very definitely Muddy) is now settled in with the other GOT Pops:

Popinabox June 2015 Review

Popinabox: June 2015 Review

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

My popinabox for June finally arrived today! Getting new pops is one of my favourite things in the world right now, so I always find these boxes especially exciting. Last month I opted for the '1 pop' box, but this month I decided to spend a little more and go for the double pop experience.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed when I opened the box. Part of that is my fault - I am completely responsible for saying which pops I do and don't want to receive (popinabox will never send you a pop that you have 'disliked'). However, the real problem for me wasn't that they sent a character that I didn't want, but that they sent me two versions of the exact same character.

Now, I can appreciate Iron Man as much as the next person, but I really didn't want to see two of him in my box!

The pops themselves are pretty ace though - they are both bobbleheads and super cute. I would have been thrilled to have received one of these along with another, more varied, pop.

I don't really blame popinabox for my disappointment at the end of the day, I think I have just learned an important lesson about being more specific with them about what I like/dislike. I've realised that I find the superhero/Marvel pops a lot less exciting than pops representing other fandoms that I love, so I've adjusted my settings accordingly.

Hopefully next month will reflect my tastes a little better and I'll be really happy with the next two pops they send!

(Oh and I forgot to mention that the box came with popping candy as per usual, which I really love!)

Popinabox May 2015 Review

Popinabox: May 2015 Review (1 Pop)

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

My Popinabox arrived on May 21st and I was so excited to find out which mystery Funko Pop I got this month. I chose to only get one Pop, at £11.99 (including p&p). Once they announced that my Pop had been dispatched it arrived really quickly, so I was happy with that. The delivery man actually came while I was in the shower, so I apologise for the drips on the box – I was too excited to dry my hair before opening:

Obviously there isn’t that much mystery once the box has been opened – you can see pretty clearly who you got! I got Leela from Futurama, which I had given a ‘thumbs up’ because I really love my animated shows.

I’m really happy with her, but I did have a giggle when I discovered that she couldn’t stand up by herself. Her ponytail is really heavy so she topples straight onto her back every time. I solved this problem by leaning her against a photo frame:

A nice addition to the Popinabox is that they always include some popping candy in the box too, so you can get a nice sugar high while you unpack your Pop.

I had a really good experience with Popinabox this month. So much so, that I have increased my subscription to 2 Pops!

Popinabox

Popinabox: UK Monthly Subscription Box Service

Link: www.popinabox.co.uk

Popinabox is a subscription box that entirely caters to people who love Funko Pop vinyls. I don’t have much of a collection yet, but I absolutely love these geeky figurines. The box is UK based and costs £8.49 (with a £3.50 delivery fee) if you go with the simplest ‘1 Pop’ package. You can opt to receive between 1 and 6 Pops, with the largest box costing £49.44. I’ve opted for 1 Pop for my first box, but I’m considering increasing it to 2 Pops for June 2015.

There is such a wide range of Funko Pop vinyls now that it can be hard to decide what you do or don’t want. Popinabox has a fantastic website in that respect because they have a database of every single Pop, so that you can see everything that is or was available. You can then select all of the Pops that you own – meaning that Popinabox will never send you duplicate Pops – and you can ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ every Pop so that the subscription service knows whether or not you want to receive it. Popinabox will never send you Pops that you have thumbed down. I really like this system, because it means that you have assurance that you will be getting something that you really want and at the same time you still get that wonderful ‘mystery box’ feeling.

Even if this doesn’t float your boat as a subscription box, it’s still a wonderful resource for anyone who appreciates Pops. They have an online shop, separate to the subscription box, so that you can purchase Pops whenever you like.

I can’t wait for this box so that I can start adding to my collection!
